North East superhero fan owes his life to a Batman vest

Superhero fan little Hasnath Siddiquey owes his life to Batman.

When the little lad was waiting for a heart transplant he had a special ‘Batman vest’ made which helped keep him alive.

Nearly two years on and Hasnath has proved his true strength after battling the odds.

And now he’s doing all the things his fellow five-year-old friends are after a successful transplant.

Hasnath’s mum Afia, 39, of Darlington, County Durham, said: “Hasnath developed dilated cardiomyopathy - a disease of the heart muscle where it becomes stretched and thin. It meant that Hasnath’s heart was not able to pump blood around his body properly and so he was referred to the Children’s Heart Unit at Freeman Hospital.

He was fitted with a ventricular assistive device but this product was designed for adults and so would prove difficult for the frail young lad to carry around.

Catherine Foster, an OT at the Freemans, contacted Care Ability Ltd a well known moving and handling products company, who were able to design a vest to carry it around in. Batman was thus called in to assist.
